Multipair

Multipair cable for RS-232, RS-422, RS-485 and PLTC wiring — 178 Quabbin cables, 18 to 28 AWG, shielded and unshielded, mostly PVC jacketed.

What is in this range

  • Multipair RS-232 — 36 cables, the most common choice for serial instrumentation runs.
  • Multipair RS-422 — 29 cables for balanced differential signalling over longer distances.
  • Multipair RS-485 — multi-drop network wiring.
  • Multipair PLTC — 15 power-limited tray cables.
  • SignalGuard® individually shielded pairs, for pair-to-pair crosstalk and for noisy plant.
  • Sizes run 18, 20, 22, 24 and 28 AWG; 24 and 22 AWG together make up most of the range. Pair counts go from 1 pair upward.

Choosing between multipair and multiconductor

Pairs are twisted together as a pair, so a multipair cable rejects common-mode noise on a balanced signal in a way a multiconductor cable does not. Use multipair for RS-422 and RS-485 and for any differential signal; use multiconductor where the circuits are independent single-ended signals or control. Every Quabbin cable here is sold by the foot or on the reel under its Quabbin part number.
